A CWI paper on a new way of implementing database systems - vectorized execution - has won the 2024 CIDR Test of Time Award at the Conference on Innovative Data Systems Research (CIDR). The paper by CWI's DA group, 'MonetDB/X100: Hyper-Pipelining Query Execution' was published in 2005 and is the first paper to receive a CIDR Test of Time Award.
The ACM CCS Test of Time Awards honour research with long-lasting influence, which has had significant impacts on systems security and privacy. Marten van Dijk and his co-authors won it for their research on Path ORAM, an algorithm to prevent adversaries from using access patterns to computer memory to infer confidential information.
The ACM STOC Test of Time Award recognizes papers with exceptional long-term impact published in the ‘Proceedings of the Annual ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing’. Earlier winners of these awards include Cynthia Dwork, Manuel Blum, Dan Spielman, Avi Wigderson, David Chaum and Ivan Damgård.
The VLDB 10-year Best Paper Award is annually granted for the best article that was presented at the VLDB conference ten years ago, and that has had the most impact since then.
This prize is awarded by the IEEE Computer Society for outstanding and innovative contributions to the fields of computer and information science and engineering or computer technology, usually within the past 10-15 years.

- Steven Pemberton received the ACM SIGCHI Lifetime Service Award in 2009
Some Fellowships and Memberships of CWI researchers
CWI Fellows receive this distinction of honour because of their contributions to science and management for CWI. The title of CWI Fellow is given to outstanding members of CWI's research staff and enables them to pursue free research directions supported by CWI.

The Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen or KHMW) in Haarlem is the oldest academic society in the Netherlands. Established in 1752, the society aims at promoting science by awarding prizes and stipendia. Nowadays, it aspires to bridge the gap between science and society.
