Jan Dorscheid has been appointed as furniture conservator at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam since 2015. He studied conservation and restoration of wooden artefacts at the University of Applied Science in Potsdam, Germany. Following his studies, he completed a post-graduate internship at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and an Andrew W. Mellon fellowship at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. At the Rijksmuseum Jan took on a variety of tasks ranging from material research pertaining to the objects dating, attribution and preservation, as well as to the care and maintenance of the Rijksmuseum’s significant collection of furniture and wooden objects.
