13:00-13:40 Ton de Kok, Decision making under uncertainty in manufacturing and distribution systems
In this presentation we discuss some empirically valid models for operational decision making under demand and supply uncertainty in manufacturing and distribution systems (aka supply chains). We start with the building block models from queuing theory and inventory theory, presenting the major findings on empirical validity and mathematical tractability. Building on these findings we discuss the main results for modelling and analysis of general supply chains and some open problems.
13:40-14:10 Jonas Helsen, Classical shadows: a tool for characterizing noisy quantum computers
Quantum computers promise to do certain computational tasks much better than classical computers, but they still have to be built. A key problem on the way there is the development of characterization, validation, and verification (QCVV) techniques for quantum computers. I will discuss some of my own recent research in this direction, based on the recently developed concept of classical shadows of quantum systems.
