The Dijkstra Fellowships are named in honour of the eminent mathematician and computer scientist Edsger Dijkstra, who developed groundbreaking work at CWI, such as his shortest path algorithm.

The first Dijkstra Fellowships were awarded to David Chaum and Guido van Rossum (2019).
