Steven Pemberton (CWI and W3C) has been awarded the prestigious international ACM CHI Lifetime Service Award.
It has been awarded for his contribution to the growth of SIGCHI − the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction. Steven served the community at large over a number of years. Criteria for the award are: service to SIGCHI and its activities in a variety of capacities, extended contributions over many years, and influence on the community at large. The award includes a trip to Boston to receive the award in April.
Steven Pemberton is a researcher in the Information Systems department at CWI, and HTML and Forms Lead at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). He has a long history of service to the SIGCHI conference and organization. He was editor-in-chief of the SIGCHI Bulletin from 1993 -1999 and editor-in-chief of ACM/interactions from 1998 to 2004. Steven was actively involved in the organization of several SICCHI conferences, eg, as conference chair of CHI 97. Further, Steven was a member of the SIGCHI Executive Committee for a decade. He was also a founding member of SIGCHI.NL and the Amsterdam New Media Association.
About SIGCHI
SIGCHI is a special interest group of ACM, and was founded in 1982 to create the field of computer-human interaction. Now it is the world's leading international organization in this area. It organises the yearly CHI conference (around 2500 attendees) and produces several leading publications. It has around fifty regional branches around the world.
