Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica has published its Strategic Plan 2019-2024. In it, CWI presents the research themes and topics the institute will focus on in the coming years and its ambition to further expand its impact.

General Director Jos Baeten: “Key to CWI’s mission is initiating new fields in which research in mathematics and computer science are combined. The ongoing digitization makes CWI’s research more relevant than ever before. We feel that our expertise can contribute to society at large, given the many and various problems public organizations and industry are facing. Developing and sharing our knowledge by collaborating with universities, other research institutes and industry continues to be part of our mission.”

CWI has consistently received very high scores in all evaluations over the past two decades. The most recent one in 2017 assessed that “CWI conducts top research, with high international influence on the relevant research fields, and leadership recognized by international peers.” It also stated that CWI research “makes outstanding contributions to society” and that ”increased [..] funding would allow CWI to consolidate their leading role in a rapidly changing technological landscape with its important research challenges.”
