Ten organizations, including the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) in Amsterdam, launched the Dutch Machine Learning Platform website on 8 July. The URL is: http://www.mlplatform.nl/. The purpose of the Machine Learning Platform is to provide an interface for discussion and interaction between the academic and industrial research & development communities in the Netherlands. Machine Learning develops algorithms that allow software to make intelligent decisions based on data.
Can machines think? This question is not only of philosophical importance, but also has societal relevance. Modern robots can assist people in their homes, having human-like qualities, and personalized tools on the internet learn from our behavior. Smart software underlies these applications, so both academia and industry can learn from each other’s challenges and showcases. This platform is a first step to facilitate that interaction.
The new MLP website contains up-to-date information about the many research groups involved in machine learning in the Netherlands as well as in Belgium, research highlights, upcoming events and useful links. Machine Learning news items and events can be posted on the site by sending an e-mail to snn (at) science.ru.nl. The site has been developed by SNN Adaptive Intelligence, a national consortium in the field of machine learning and adaptive intelligence. Three CWI groups are involved in the platform: Multi-agent and Adaptive Computation (SEN4), Neuroinformatics (part of MAC4), and Information Theoretic Learning (part of PNA6). Techniques from machine learning are part of Software as Service, Life Science and Societal Logistics – major research themes for CWI.
