Researchers from the Intelligent Systems group of Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica in Amsterdam, and SENSE Lab of TU Berlin join forces on the European Utility Week, the leading knowledge and innovation event for the smart energy industry in Amsterdam, from 4 – 6 November 2014.

Within the European Virtual Smart Grid Lab (booth 4.G40), the researchers demonstrate how smart charging can make electric vehicles run on renewable energy in the Amsterdam power grid. Their work uses Market Garden, a research environment for combined grid-and-market simulations on smart energy systems, developed by CWI with support of EIT ICT Labs.

The switch to renewable energy has major consequences for our future energy system. Researchers are studying the effect of different market mechanisms and concepts such as demand response under new conditions, in order to advance towards a well-designed European smart energy system.
