CWI, TNO Information and Communication Technology and the University of Twente have recently agreed to found the E-Quality Expertise Centre, aiming at performance and Quality of Service of ICT services and networks. The kick-off meeting will be held in Twente, on September 30, 2005. CWI researchers involved are Rob van der Mei and Michel Mandjes.
Quality of Service (QoS) is essential for companies that use or offer ICT services. The market position of a strongly growing number of companies depends directly on the quality of their ICT services. For example, badly performing commercial E-commerce websites will lead to customer churn, and hence, loss of revenue. Similarly, if the download times for data applications via mobile Internet access networks are overly lengthy, consumers will switch to mobile operators that offer better price-quality ratios.
E-Quality's expertise can help companies to use or develop well-performing ICT services cost-efficiently. To this end, E-Quality provides a wealth of experience in the development of quantitative models and solution techniques. These techniques can be applied to predict QoS under any anticipated load scenario. This can be used to timely plan system upgrades to avoid perceivable quality degradation.
