CWI researcher Monique Laurent is elected as a Fellow of the international Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics – SIAM. This prestigious Fellowship honours SIAM members who have made outstanding contributions to these fields. Laurent, who is a member of the management team of Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) and a professor at Tilburg University, receives the fellowship for her contributions to discrete and polynomial optimization and revealing interactions between them.
As a Fellow Monique Laurent will receive a certificate and she will be honoured at the 2017 SIAM Business Meeting during the SIAM Annual Meeting from 10-14 July 2017 in Pittsburgh (USA), on the SIAM website and in SIAM News. With this fellowship she belongs to a distinguished group of 28 members nominated by peer scientists who are selected for the 2017 Class of Fellows. They are not only nominated for their exemplary research but also for outstanding service to the community. Through their contributions, SIAM Fellows help to advance the fields of applied mathematics and computational science. Monique Laurent has served as Associate Editor of the SIAM Journal on Optimization as well as the Editorial Board of the MPS-SIAM book series on optimization, and she is currently Associate Editor of the SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics.
