Simon Telen was elected a member of the new EMS Young Academy (EMYA) in March. EMYA was launched this year. Its first cohort of members consists of thirty early career European mathematicians, spanning eighteen countries and representing a broad spectrum of mathematical activities. Currently, Telen is a postdoc researcher in the Networks and Optimization research group at CWI. He will start as a Max Planck junior research group leader at MPI MiS Leipzig from 1 April 2023. Telen says: "I am grateful for the opportunity to represent young mathematicians for the EMS through EMYA, and excited to further discover the European mathematical landscape."
About EMYA
EMYA provides a platform for the next generation of mathematicians to debate and plan for the future of European mathematics, to organise activities through the EMS, and to advise the EMS on its actions and priorities. Each member is invited to serve for four years, and at full scale EMYA will have 120 members. From the EMS website: "Everyone at the EMS is grateful to the new EMYA members for their willingness to serve, and is excited to start working with them in support of the wider European mathematical community".
The list of current members can be found on the EMYA 2023 web page. More details about EMYA, including the procedures and timeline for future nominations and selection, is available on the EMYA web page.
