On 22 January 2014 Paul Klint, research fellow at CWI and professor Software Engineering at the University of Amsterdam, will retire to the position of emeritus professor. The title of his valedictory speech is 'The Software Revolution'.
According to Paul Klint there has never been a "software crisis": failing technical systems are inextricably linked with each technological development. There is rather a software revolution. The quality of research in any field of science is determined by the quality of the software used in the research. Klint also believes that policy makers should consult experts in the field of software engineering to test the feasibility of their policies.
Klint co-founded in 2000 the Software Improvement Group (SIG), a very succesful CWI spin-off. SIG now has over 90 employees and won the 2008 ICT Regie Award. In his career Klint published more than a hundred scientific papers, supervised over thirty PhD’s and over a hundred master students. On 9 September 2013, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Oranje-Nassau.
