Biography
I joined CWI in January 2021 as a PhD-student in the Human-Centered Data Analytics group. After obtaining my Bachelor’s in Journalism in 2017, I studied computational approaches in media during the “Data Journalism” Master programme at HSE University (Moscow, Russia). As an Erasmus+ scholar, I gained interdisciplinary creative research experience studying “Media Technology” (Leiden University, the Netherlands) during my exchange semester in 2019. In my Master's thesis, I showed how text mining methods help collect missing data on crimes against LGBTQIA+ people in Russia from court decisions to enhance data-driven storytelling.
In my current research project, “Culturally Aware AI”, I investigate how computational methods can help mitigate the offensiveness and discriminatory nature of cultural biases and controversies within Dutch digital heritage collections and datasets used in the cultural sector. Besides research, I find it inspiring to present my work at international conferences, workshops, and guest lectures for university students.
Since 2023, I have been an active member of the employee resource group PRISM, which contributes to safer and more open working environment for LGBTQIA+ employees within NWO/NWO-I (the Dutch Research Council and the associated institutes).
